live radio from Eugene, Oregon

December 17th, 2004

While living in Eugene, Oregon I drove around in a high performance luxury vehicle (1984 Chevy pickup) equipped only with an AM/FM car stereo, I relied on the local NPR affiliate, KLCC 89.7 FM for all my listening needs. They’re great, and exactly what you might expect from an NPR affiliate in the land hippy hq – liberal, progressive and ecologically minded.

Come to think of it, the audio quality pumping from my car stereo was right in line with their internet broadcast, except the inet version is in stereo.

Listen to the live broadcast (Windows Media Player) or as mP3.

NPR’s All Songs Considered – the perfect playlist

December 3rd, 2004

I’ve enjoyed the online presence of National Public Radio’s ‘All Songs Considered’ for about 18 months now. It’s a pretty good filter of new, emerging and little-known artists available as Real and Window Media player streams via the national NPR site.

This week, All Songs Considers looks for the “Perfect Song” as chosen by the program staff, listeners and artists.

From the site:

A songwriter can write a great song, but the perfect song is in the mind of the listener. Why someone falls in love with a song can be as much about the moment it’s first heard as the talent of the artist. Something clicks, and somehow all the emotions swirling in your head are summed up in three quick minutes. We received megabytes of ‘Perfect Song’ suggestions, all different and all perfect.
