Vine now lets you use your Android phone’s existing video clips

Not too long ago Vine blessed iOS users with the ability to import pre-existing videos into the app, and now Google fans can get in on the action. Any clips in your Android camera roll are viable subjects to be trimmed down to six seconds or shorter now, and you can activate your device’s flashlight to work as a flash in low-light situations. There are a few other features too, and you can check those out on the app’s Google Play page. Now all that’s separating your from internet stardom is, well… you.

It’s done it before, and it’s doing it again. YouTube is investing additional millions to support its own video stars. In a statement, Google’s video unit said it will “fund
new content from some of our top creators, helping them not only fulfill their creative ambitions but also deliver new material to their millions of fans on YouTube.” As Forbes notes,
“It’s not the first time YouTube has tried to create professional-level content.” Rather, “In 2011, YouTube invested in channels with Hollywood types like Sofia Vergara and
Ashton Kutcher, though many of the channels were not renewed.”

Ichabod Crane is one of the best-named characters in the history of American literature, in my opinion. For this reason, among many others, I’m extremely excited to announce that Hulu Plus has acquired the exclusive streaming rights to the Emmy-nominated, hit series Sleepy Hollow, starring a dashing (but not American) Tom Mison, as Ichabod.

Beginning today, Hulu Plus will officially become the exclusive streaming home to the entire first season of the cult sensation Sleepy Hollow – giving fans a chance to catch up on the show ahead of its second season premiere on September 22nd on FOX. Additionally, Hulu Plus will have day-after-air access to new episodes after the season two premiere, and will have all season two episodes available to stream following their broadcast on FOX.

Sleepy Hollow has always been a popular show on the Hulu platform. Position Expectation
Candidates for the Head of Product role should have strong experience designing and managing complex UX projects and overseeing revenue-driving initiatives.   • Work with the executive team to develop an innovative product vision across desktop, tablet and mobile platforms.

Arcade Fire Cover Jane’s Addiction’s “Been Caught Stealing”, Steal Fans’ Cell Phones

Arcade Fire continued their streak of covers last night at the Forum in Los Angeles. This time, when they did “Been Caught Stealing” by Jane’s Addiction, they actually reached down and grabbed a few cell phones from fans in the front row. Then they did a little bit of Guns N’ Roses“Welcome to the Jungle” before transitioning into “Here Comes the Night Time”. Watch below via Stereogum.


Neil Young Boycotts Non-Organic Cotton, Asks Fans to Do the Same

Neil Young has taken a stand on many environmental issues (like co-founding Farm Aid and preaching about the benefits of the electric car). As Stereogum points out, he’s now turned his attention toward the fabric of our lives. In a note on his website, he explains that he’s transitioning away from selling t-shirts made from non-organic cotton and is encouraging fans to purchase organic clothing.

On his last European tour, he handed out free organic cotton shirts that said “PROTECT” and “EARTH”. “I vow to speak up & to do what I can to PROTECT EARTH,” he writes. “Take a personal vow, as I have, to make a difference in any way you can. Share the information you find here and elsewhere that illuminates the threats & the solutions to PROTECT EARTH.”

Here’s his reasoning for boycotting non-organic cotton:

  • Cotton is the most widely used textile crop on earth – covering almost 5% of Earth’s cultivated land
  • Cotton is second for most pesticide use of all crops & it uses 25% of all of the petrochemical based pesticides, fungicides and herbicides globally
  • In the US, it takes about 1/3 of a pound of pesticides and herbicides to grow enough conventional cotton for just one T-shirt.
  • The Environmental Protection Agency considers seven of the top 15 pesticides used on cotton in the United States as “possible,” “likely,” “probable,” or “known” human carcinogens (acephate, dichloropropene, diuron, fluometuron, pendimethalin, tribufos, and trifluralin)
  • These chemicals absorb into the soil which can affect nearby crops, get into water supplies and rivers and affect many lifeforms downstream
  • Because cotton is grown primarily for its fiber, it is regulated as a non-food crop yet the majority of the cotton plant in the form of cottonseed, approximately 60% by weight, ends up in our food supply.
  • Most cotton is heavily processed using additional resources for stripping, waxing, bleaching, dying and softening
  • 2,700 liters of water is used to grow the cotton for just 1 t-shirt!!!
    ( & that doesn’t even account for the processing dying etc….)
  • That’s enough water for 1 person to drink for 900 days or enough water to flush your ( non low flow) toilet 270 times!
  • All this & then there’s all the energy consumption as well in growing, manufacturing, processing, transportation etc….

WWE Network isn’t yet the streaming champion Vince McMahon wants it to be

When Vince McMahon proudly announced WWE Network at CES in January, he essentially gave wrestling fans everything they’d ever wanted. The 24/7 streaming network offers access to WWE’s massive vault of past pay-per-views. You can watch Hulk Hogan take on Andre The Giant at WrestleMania 3, then jump forward 14 years and see Hogan versus Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson at WrestleMania X8. (The latter match is way better.) There’s plenty of other programming from years past, and newer original shows. All for $9.99 monthly with a six-month commitment.

It seemed like an absolute bargain for fans, and set WWE on a new trajectory that will ultimately abandon the old, $60 Sunday night pay-per-view formula that’s lined McMahon’s pockets for decades….


This is HTC’s One M8 running Windows Phone

The HTC One M8 running Windows Phone is real, and you need only follow a Verizon URL to prove it. HTC hasn’t yet announced the rumored device, but a photo sitting right on Verizon’s servers seems to confirm that the phone is indeed coming — and likely soon. WP Central‘s original report says the “One (M8) for Windows” will be available from Verizon on August 21st. Hardware-wise, it’s probably the same M8 that’s been running Android for a few months now, but this one’s clearly aimed at fans of Microsoft’s OS.

When reached by The Verge, HTC declined to comment on the photo’s authenticity. The company is hosting a press event on August 19th, and it’s likely we’ll hear confirmation of the new, aluminum-clad Windows Phone on that date. The…


Take a first look at Josh Brolin as Thanos in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’

Marvel gave Comic-Con attendees an early look at a number of its upcoming movies last week, and one of the biggest surprises it showed is now online for the rest of the world to see. At the very end of a sizzle reel highlighting all of its superhero films to date, Marvel gave a sneak peek at Josh Brolin as the villain Thanos, as he appears in Guardians of the Galaxy. Given that the movie is now out, Marvel fans will soon get to see a lot more of Thanos than just this tiny glimpse — and there’s no doubt that he’ll appear quite a bit more in the future. For now, if you can’t wait, watch until the very end of the video for brief glimpse.
